Dana Hag Hamed
Project Manager
Dana Hag Hamed is the Project Manager, supporting sponsored projects led by Drs. Erin Sorrell and Claire Standley, at the Georgetown University Center for Global Health Science and Security, managing the day-to-day activities of these projects and supporting the internal teams and the external project affiliates. Prior to joining the Center, Dana served as a teaching assistant at the Georgetown University Department of International Health and continues to return as a guest speaker to lend her expertise on Female Genital Mutilation. She was also a teaching assistant at Ahfad University for Women where she taught the introductory course in Evidence-based Practice. She also served as the program coordinator where she managed the program’s day-to-day activities and was the point of contact between the Department of Physiotherapy and the external teams.
Dana has over 9 years of experience in global health and international development and was a peace corps participant where she worked with Norwegian teams at Bergen University College and Sudanese teams at Ahfad University for Women to promote physiotherapy education in Sudan and Norway. She also served as a consultant for the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security in Sudan where she supported the teams with evidence reviews, proposal writing and commentaries on multifaceted projects including FGM, welfare of children of female prisoners and bridging the gender gap in public education. She also served as consultant for a number of organizations and multilaterals such as UNAIDS Sudan where she assisted with report writing, and more recently produced an executive level evidence review for Ideas42, a nudge unit based in New York. She also served as a junior temporary assistant at UNICEF Sudan during the launch of the national polio vaccination campaign.
Dana interned at Clear Outcomes, a monitoring and evaluation company where she produced the Health and Gender Inequality Index (HGII) to track gender inequality at the intersection of health. She also interned at the Kintampo Health Research Centre in Ghana, where she studied COVID-19 policy implementation in public schools. Dana also volunteered as an informal counselor to Arabic speaking refugees and asylum seekers in Klokkarvic camp in Bergen, Norway. She was a research associate then the Washington DC Ambassador for Femigrants, an online platform to support immigrant entrepreneurs. Most recently she volunteered to mentor at Empowered Women International, an organization that provides immigrant and minority women with entrepreneurship training and support. Dana has a BSc in Counseling and Health Psychology from Ahfad University for Women in Sudan. She has a MPhil in Health Promotion from the University of Bergen in Norway, and a MSc in Global Health from Georgetown University.
