Data Visualization and Decision Support for CDC

During infectious disease outbreaks, public health officials need to know where a disease is spreading, its population impact, and its effect on healthcare systems that inform decision making. Though select data collection systems are available at the state and federal level, these data systems are not consistently integrated nationally or communicated in a way that best informs outbreak response actions. To fill this gap, Ellie Graeden, CEO of Talus Analytics, presented a series of web-based visualization platforms developed in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. These tools help quickly identify areas where additional support for outbreak preparedness and response may be needed. After being cross-referenced with healthcare system and medical countermeasure availability, the results provide early warning on national trends in illness. This helps to inform decisions regarding resource prioritization and care strategies to support response actions.
