Molly Shapiro is a Manager within the Commercial Strategy and Operations sector of Concentric at Ginkgo Bioworks. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and biology from Dartmouth University and then entered the life sciences industry and worked as a consultant for around 5 years. In the spring of 2020, she was hired by Ginkgo Bioworks just as the pandemic began to sweep across the nation. 

Molly is involved with the Concentric by Ginkgo initiative that focuses on increasing the accessibility of COVID-19 testing in schools across the US. In her role with Concentric, she works to provide easy and affordable testing aimed to help students stay in school and keep schools open and free of COVID-19. Her team identified pooled surveillance testing as a method that accurately determines positive cases within schools. This service can reduce testing costs and prevent lab delays. Massachusetts acted as one of the first locations that implemented the Concentric testing pilot program and following positive feedback, Concentric expanded its surveillance network across the United States. There are currently 1,027 schools signed up to test with Concentric. Additionally, the company has recently partnered with the CDC in a pilot program to do pooled surveillance testing in airports. Molly is continuing work at Ginkgo to improve and increase testing and surveillance support levels across the United States, as well as explore new testing modalities.
