Dr. Mandeep Rai
Infectious Disease Specialist
Dr. Mandeep Rai is a distinguished physician and infectious disease specialist. She attended medical school in India, completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Buffalo, and proceeded to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for a fellowship in infectious disease. Dr. Rai then moved to Phoenix, Arizona and for the last 20 years has worked in two community hospitals in the area. At the onset of the pandemic, Dr. Rai immediately took to the frontlines of the COVID-19 medical response.
In the spring of 2020, fear quickly spread throughout the hospital systems about the unknowns of COVID-19. Dr. Rai noted that it is difficult to predict which patient being admitted to the hospital will develop severe disease from the virus. As time went on and life-saving treatments and vaccines were developed, Dr. Rai sensed that doctors became more comfortable taking care of patients. Dr. Rai stated that she feels hopeful given therapeutics are available in the community hospitals and treatments are evolving as the virus has changed. However, the death rates for COVID-19 in Arizona are high and vaccine uptake in certain areas has been a problem. Dr. Rai continues to fight the spread of COVID-19 and directly saves lives.
